Dalton-on-Tees is a small village of approximately 90 houses. It is close to the boundary between North Yorkshire and County Durham. The village has a public house, The Chequers Inn and a village hall. It is close to the motor-racing track called Croft Circuit which was built on the former aerodrome. The main A167 road between Northallerton and Darlington used to pass right through the village until a by-pass was built in the 1950s. Dalton-on-Tees has a long history. There were 2 villas here in Roman times. At the time of Domesday it was included under Croft and was described as waste but the Normans established a village here which flourished in the 12th and 13th centuries. Like many in the area the village declined in the 14th century until the turnpike road brought new prosperity in the 18th century. The 2nd world war saw increased activity in the area with the arrival of 2 squadrons from the Royal Canadian Air Force.
